These flooded fields—known as paddies—are traditionally used to grow rice, a staple crop across much of Southeast Asia. Brilliant autumn foliage surrounds the dramatic plunge of Kegon Falls (華厳滝), one of Japan’s most famous waterfalls, located in Nikko National Park, Tochigi Prefecture. Fed by Lake Chuzenji, the falls drop about 97 meters (318 feet) into a misty gorge below, creating a spectacular sight in peak fall color season.
